Seesaw geometry and leptogenesis

چکیده

The representation of the seesaw orthogonal matrix in the complex plane establishes a graphical correspondence between neutrino mass models and geometrical configurations, particularly useful to study relevant aspects of leptogenesis. We first derive the CP asymmetry bound for hierarchical heavy neutrinos and then an expression for the effective leptogenesis phase, determining the conditions for maximal phase and placing a lower bound on the phase suppression for generic models. Reconsidering the lower bounds on the lightest right-handed (RH) neutrino mass M1 and on the reheating temperature Treh, we find that models where the lightest neutrino mass m1 is dominated by one of the two heavier right-handed (RH) neutrinos, typically arising from connections with quark masses, undergo both phase suppression and strong wash-out such that M1(Treh) & 1.5 × 1011 (2 × 1010)GeV. The window 109 GeV . M1, Treh . 10 10 GeV is accessible only for a class of models where m1 is dominated by the lightest RH neutrino, with no connections with quark masses. Within this class we describe a new scenario of thermal leptogenesis where the baryon asymmetry of the Universe is generated by the decays of the second lightest RH neutrino, such that the lower bound on M1 disappears and is replaced by a lower bound on M2. Interestingly, the final asymmetry is independent on the initial conditions. We also discuss the validity of the approximation of hierarchical heavy neutrinos in a simple analytical way.

Leptogenesis in the type III seesaw mechanism

It is shown that the type III seesaw mechanism proposed recently can have certain advantages over the conventional (or type I) seesaw mechanism for leptogenesis. In particular a resonant enhancement of leptogenesis via heavy quasi-Dirac right-handed neutrino pairs can occur without a special flavor form or “texture” of the mass matrices being assumed. Some of the requirements for neutrino mixin...

Various Realizations of Leptogenesis and Neutrino Mass Constraints

Following the recent convincing evidence for neutrino oscillations, leptogenesis has become a well motivated possible explanation of the origin of the baryon asymmetry of the universe. In these proceedings, after a short introduction on the three basic ingredients of leptogenesis, we will extend the discussion of Ref. along two main directions. First, in the framework of the usual seesaw model ...

Constraints on SUSY Seesaw from Leptogenesis and LFV

We study constraints on the fundamental parameters of supersymmetric type I seesaw models imposed by neutrino data, charged lepton flavor violation, thermal leptogenesis and perturbativity of the neutrino Yukawa couplings.

High energy seesaw models, GUTs and Leptogenesis

I review high energy (type I) seesaw models and in particular how they can be nicely embedded within grand-unified models and reproduce the observed matter-antimatter asymmetry with leptogenesis. I also discuss how high energy (type I) seesaw models can provide a candidate for very heavy cold dark matter, within the TeV-EeV range, whose decays might explain part of the IceCube high energy neutr...

CP Violation in the SUSY Seesaw: Leptogenesis and Low Energy

We suppose that the baryon asymmetry is produced by thermal leptogenesis (with flavour effects), at temperatures∼ 109−1010 GeV, in the supersymmetric seesaw with universal and real soft terms. The parameter space is restricted by assuming that lα → lβγ processes will be seen in upcoming experiments. We study the sensitivity of the baryon asymmetry to the phases of the lepton mixing matrix, and ...
